Children's Church

First Lady Ashley Newton - Chair

Through a collaborative effort among the children's church instructors we will create and maintain a pleasant, learning environment for children ages 3-12 to build Christian principles and set the foundation for a lifelong relationship with the Christ and the church.

Children's Church currently meets virtually via Zoom every 2nd and 4th Sundays at 12:30PM.

After School Program

Sis. Betty Johnson - President

Our after school program is designed to help school-age children enhance learning and comprehension of their current school assignments and course materials to improve grades and academic confidence. We have an experienced and caring staff that provide supervision and expert academic assistance. We will ensure that all children accurately complete their homework and have an opportunity to participate in a wide array of extracurricular activities.

Adult Sunday School

Keith Leacock - Superintendent

The Sunday School Department is the strategic teaching component of the church that engages spiritual gifts of the layperson as the primary instructors. This department provides systematic instruction that will involve the whole family in the study of God’s Word. The instructors will come together weekly to prepare and organize for Sunday’s sessions.

Adult Sunday School Currently meets virtually on Zoom Sundays at 9:30PM.

WHOMS

Debra Walrond - President

Women’s Home & Overseas Missionary Society is made up of women of all ages separated into departments for specific work. The Missionary Ministry is all about our mission. Missionaries participate in service projects throughout the year, as well as denominationally, that share the love of Jesus Christ with those who are less fortunate or have never heard of Jesus Christ.

YAMS

Jovan Miles - President

The purpose of this department is to (1) unite women, age 22–40, of The AME Zion Church for mission service in the church and community. The prime objectives will include social concerns such as child abuse, teenage pregnancies, drug dependency, world hunger, etc.; (2) provide an opportunity for the personal and individual Christian growth of members; (3) provide an opportunity for Christian witness through the use of their time, talent, and treasure to support the mission; (4) provide experiences that will enable Young Adult Missionaries to perpetuate the existence and continued growth of the Women’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society, The AME Zion Church, and the kingdom of God.

Buds of Promise

Bernqulin Hayes-Brown - Superintendent

 The Buds of Promise are the Juvenile Society of the WHOM Society.  The mission of the WHOM Society is to establish Christian learning environments and experiences for all children (age 1 through 12) through mission education.  These experiences will enable each child to acquire the knowledge, beliefs and attitudes that are essential to his/her spiritual development as an individual and are necessary for the attainment of a meaningful life.

The Board of Christian Education is made of all the departments and ministries that fall under the banner of Christian Education. The CED uses resources and collaborates with other ministries to ensure the success for the edification of the church.

Busy Bees

Nina Irish - President

Over the years the ‘Bees’ have partnered with various organizations and completed many projects, all while striving to live up to the Busy Bee motto: “We the Busy Bees proclaim to do all the good that we can, for all the people we can, for as long as we can.”

Excelsior Club

Eula Channelle - President

The Excelsior Club is one of the oldest ministries in the church created by the late Rev. Eldridge Gittens. Excelsior meaning to rise, go forward and excel. Their goals are to uplift the church and the community. They are often active in planning annual events, fundraisers, and fellowships.

Chorlia Pettway - President

The mission of the hospitality ministry is to provide a welcoming environment of love, acceptance, comfort, support, care, and unity for visitors, members, guests, and friends in order to enhance their worship experience, encourage fellowship, and help build a community of believers.

Usher Boards

Men | Women | Junior

Serves as doorkeepers in the house of God. Ushers help to direct persons to available seats during worship and maintain order and decorum in the worship service. They are also responsible for the initial greeting of love for those entering in for worship.

Widow & Widowers Ministry

Rev. Vernell Stukes - Director

A blessed Biblical based ministry that demonstrates the love of Christ as a resource of spiritual support, social activity, and Christian fellowship.

This ministry currently meets via conference call Thursdays at 1PM.

This fellowship ministry comprises of members who are natives of North & South Carolina. They hold annual events, fundraisers, and fellowships.

Eldridge Gittens Floral Club

Wanda Hazel - President

The Eldridge Gittens Floral Club has been in existence for 63 years. This organization is responsible for placing flowers on the altar to beautify the church. They come together to decorate the church for special days, hold annual events and fundraisers, and will honor your loved ones with flowers at a price. They are always looking for new members and they believe that flowers are the beauty of life.

Prayer Call Ministry

Nina Irish - President

The mission of the Prayer Ministry is to INTERCEDE to God constantly on behalf of the church leaders and its members, ENCOURAGE and MOTIVATE the church members to develop a prayer life!

Prayer Calls happens every week Monday-Friday at 6:00AM.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Rosette Hargett - President

God’s Prayer Shawl Ministry started in July 2010. It consists of members from various denomination and cultures. To date, this ministry has given out over 3,000 prayer shawls & lap blankets.
It is also a traveling ministry that enjoys trips across the world for fun, prayer, and the making of prayer shawls.

Lay Council

Gail Carlisle - President

Lay Council is responsible for promoting and deepening the spiritual life of the laity. The Lay Council disseminates information concerning connectional (denominational) lay activities, meetings, conferences and conventions. The Lay Council works to expands and promote the mission of the church. Every member who is not ordained is considered laity and encouraged to become a part of the Lay Council.

Alcoholics Anonymous Meetings

Herk Ford - Chair

Alcoholics Anonymous is an international mutual aid fellowship with the stated purpose of enabling its members to "stay sober and help other alcoholics achieve sobriety." AA is nonprofessional, non-denominational, self-supporting, and apolitical. Its only membership requirement is a desire to stop drinking.

Choir Ministry

Nicholas Hannibal - Director

The various Choirs here at Rush Temple render music from more traditional to contemporary pieces. The choirs are first in service to offer praise unto the Lord. Those who are a part of this ministry understand that attending rehearsals are mandatory to ensure that we are prepared for Sunday morning worship.

Pastors Aide Society (Stewardess)

Yvette Thompson - President

Pastors Aide Society (Stewardess) is all about pastoral support. This group responds to some of the temporal concerns of the pastor as it relates to ministry. They maintain the vestments of the pastor and makes sure that the pastor has what he needs to minister to the members of the church.

Sick & Shut in Notices: The purpose of the sick notice is so that we can ensure that all members are visited in their time of illness. To place someone on our list, please call or email the church office. This will allow us to notify the staff ministers so that one or more of the following below can be arranged. If the church isn’t properly notified then the Pastor and visitation ministers most likely aren’t aware.

The Girl Scout Promise and Law are shared by every member of Girl Scouting. The Girl Scout Promise is the way Girl Scouts agree to act every day toward one another and other people, and the Girl Scout Law outlines a way to act towards one another and the world.
